The Nakhchivan Marathon 2019, dedicated to the 96th anniversary of national leader Heydar Aliyev, was held on May 5, 2019, with special support from Naxtel.

“Run for your life!” The 11-kilometre half marathon, held under the banner of Azerbaijan, began in front of the Ilham Aliyev Olympic Sports Complex and finished around Lake Uzunoba. The marathon, which was held for the first time in the Autonomous Republic, was a huge success.

In total, almost 2,000 people have signed up to compete in the competition. Civil workers, servicemen, cultural and artistic figures, athletes, Paralympians, and members of the public were also in attendance. The tournament was also attended by representatives from more than 40 organizations and businesses in the autonomous republic. Students from Bangladesh, Nigeria, Iran, and Turkey competed in the marathon with Azerbaijani students. 

The race’s fan zone is located near the finish line, around Lake Uzunoba. There were special programs for participants, as well as children, gift games, barbecue dishes and soft drinks.

The victors of the Nakhchivan Marathon 2019 were then honoured at a ceremony. There were two categories of winners: men and women. First-place winners in each category received 1,000 manats, second place winners 500 manats, and third place winners 300 manats.

In addition, the fourth and tenth place winners in each of the men’s and women’s divisions received a variety of excellent prizes.

The Nakhchivan Marathon 2019 was supported by hundreds of young volunteers.
